St. Louise de Marillac Parish
was officially established in 1963 with Father James Walsh assigned as
its first pastor.
In 1964, construction work began on the eight-classroom school and parish hall, which served as a temporary church. St. Louise School opened its doors on September 20, 1965 with an enrollment of 200 students in the first four grades. The school was staffed by four Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Fifth and sixth grades were opened in 1966, seventh grade in 1967 and eighth grade in 1968. The permanent church was completed in 1972. The Sisters of Notre Dame withdrew from St. Louise in 1976. A layman assumed administration of the school and two Sisters of St. Joseph joined the staff that year. In the fall of 1986, St. Louise School proudly opened its new computer lab, offering this new technology to the students with the purchase of ten new computers. In 1988, plans were finalized for the erection of a new parish hall, a new school library, the addition of a kindergarten classroom, as well as the expansion of the present computer lab. The old parish hall was renovated to house the parish offices and various meeting rooms. In September, 1990, our renovated library and computer lab were opened along with a kindergarten classroom which welcomed our first class of 36 students. In the Spring of 1998, a Campaign Development Plan was launched to build a new Multi-Purpose Building with a large kitchen, meeting room, bathrooms and a new lunch area, new playground, new basketball courts and added storage. On November 1, 1998 we had the dedication of the new play area and Multi-Purpose Building. In September of 2000, we upgraded our computer lab with 18 new networked computers. Today, St. Louise has an enrollment of 310 students in grades K-8. The school staff includes a lay principal, nine teachers, a math teacher, a music teacher, a reading teacher, a computer teacher, a school counselor one day a week, a computer technician one day a week, four teacher aides, a librarian and two physical education teachers.
